Work your network
You are putting too much attention selling to those who are not interested in the sale. You might be even spending money on these prospects trying to get their attention.
Everyone has a power base and a line of influence: family, friends, relatives, past associates, and old school mates. Everyone has a fan club, identify them and work it, use it, mine it — they want to hear from you. We can all agree that you can sell something to someone you already know very well.
2️⃣ things to consider:
- Networking theory suggests that people who are not directly connected to you (close friends and family) are more likely to help you with information. The hack here then is to use tools like LinkedIn to see where your second-degree connections can help you out (jobs, hustle, consulting etc.).
- If you produce content and share more, you are more likely to be more approachable yourself and attract the people you are looking to help.
⚡️Points to think about:
- What are friends and family for if you cannot connect with them — someone is already selling to them too.
- People want to help you as much as you want to help others.
- If you feel it will become a problem that’s good, you want their problems to solve.
- Whoever told you to be scared about networking lied.
- Whoever you help will tell everyone else — you will be able to help more people
- If you have a problem imposing on these people, you will have a problem on planet earth — life is about connecting, especially if everyone else is lazy too.
🎯Takeaways and action:
- Connect with every person in your final year of university/school, which you have worked with and your friends/family. Make a list of everyone, where are they now, and how will you get their contact details. The Purpose is to get back into contact with these people and restore communications. Take an interest in this list. Recover this.
- Collect information on your industry and stay curious about others
- Gain your market share by sharing what you know (text, video, voice)
- Build your power base, and don’t be afraid to ask others for help — it’s called networking.
